moreWelcome to the Team: Volunteer Justin Laura becomes our new Volunteer Coordinator
Justin’s passion for his two children and his desire to serve led him to volunteer with CASA of Paulding County. As a member of the Paulding community for over 10 years, he embraced the opportunity to finally give back by advocating for abused and neglected children in the community. The chance to make a difference by giving those very same children a voice inspires him every day. The opportunity to join the CASA of Paulding team presented itself shortly thereafter. Following his heart, Justin transitioned from the corporate world to begin a new season in his life. He is humbled and excited to work with a dedicated team that embraces relationships with people that share the same values and goals in advocating for children that deserve so much more.
moreWelcome to the Team: Volunteer Angela Zenus becomes our new Volunteer Coordinator
Angela is originally from Athens, GA, but Paulding county has been her home for the last 10 years. Angela has a Bachelor's degree in Sociology with a concentration in social work from the State University of West Georgia. She is the proud mother of 3 kids who keep her very busy and in her free time you can find her in the gym or doing anything that keeps her active. Angela first learned about CASA from another volunteer that spoke at her church one morning. She became very intrigued at that time and then an opportunity presented itself to become a CASA volunteer. While she was a volunteer, her passion for the organization grew immensely through the work she saw done for the children the organization worked with. It was during that time that Angela knew she wanted to devote herself full-time to continuing the mission of CASA. Angela says "I feel so fortunate that I am actually getting paid for doing something I truly love and believe in!"
moreKevin Donalson gets recognized for his volunteer work.
Congratulations to Kevin Donalson for obtaining the merit of CASA Paulding volunteer of the quarter.
~Kevin has had three cases with many children in several placements. He always visits the children as well as speaks to the parents, caseworkers, and anyone pertinent to the case. He offers recommendations to parents to help them with their case plans. He has never missed a hearing. Not only does he work his cases but also volunteers to visit other children who might need a male mentor in their lives. Kevin is reliable, thoughtful in making recommendations and has a genuine concern for the families that he works with. CASA Paulding is honored to have Kevin advocate for the children of our community. It is a joy working with Kevin!
more25 New Volunteers join CASA in 2016
Paulding Juvenile Court Judge Sandra Miller administered the oath to 25 volunteers to be court-appointed special advocates (CASA) for abused and neglected children on Thursday March 31 at Paulding County’s Silver Comet Field. Advocates, Family and friends gathered at the Paulding Airport Terminal Conference Center to watch the volunteers take an oath promising to advocate for the best interests of children placed in the custody of the Department of Family and Children Services.
The newly appointed CASA volunteers join 58 other dedicated community members who have been trained and are advocating for foster children in the county’s juvenile dependency court system. As officers of the court, they ensure that the children’s needs are recognized and their best interests are considered both in the courtroom and in the community. According to Judge Miller, more than 165 children are currently in foster care in Paulding County and many more advocates are still needed.
CASA volunteers are asked to meet with the child regularly and are authorized to interview people in the child’s life such as social workers, attorneys, and teachers. They attend court hearings with the child and report their findings to the judge. As officers of the court, they ensure that the children’s needs are recognized and best interests are considered both in the courtroom and in the community.

Barbara has been a volunteer with the CASA program since March 2004. In her time of service with CASA, she has advocated for 17 children and currently serves 3 children. The majority of Barbara’s advocacy has been for children with severe sexual, emotional, substance abuse and mental health issues. As a CASA Volunteer, Barbara helps to strengthen the community by helping to make better the lives of abused and neglected children who are caught up in the juvenile court system through no fault of their own. When asked, what do you get out of helping? Barbara stated, “Children need a voice when abused. I feel I can help any child, and regardless of how significant the problem(s) may be, I’ve made a difference for someone.” Barbara exhibits extraordinary dedication to her role as a CASA.
